Our
Protestant Future
|
|
Thinking
the other day what sets me apart from other
people and for the most part immigrants to
this great country, I began to wonder.
See
I was lucky to find my way across here. It
came through a job and yes I got married and
I stayed. I sit and watch all nations find
there way into this land and we live in
peace. Now will the peace last I have no
idea but as a Russian guy said at lunch the
other day 'Where else would you find people
who find respect for each other, no matter
of their culture, religion or race"
It
makes you wonder. Will the same guy find a
way to stand up to the forces that would put
this great nation down. If his family in
Russia were being bombed by the USA
government would he feel the same. If as in
World War Two, when the Japanese Citizens of
the USA were put into internment
camps would he still agree this was a great
nation. And yet he talks about the
opportunity for his kids, away from the
harassment of being a Jew in Russia. He
makes a living but for his future, his kids.
Meanwhile the protestants in this country
bring up kids who have no direction and no
understanding of the past. It is not much
different for the Catholics. We have lived a
live of luxury and as parents have forgot
the past and what it means to us all. What
did the American Loyalists (landlords) want
to keep America part of Britain. Maybe
money?. And why did so many Scots Irish give
their lives to fight against the British
Crown in the war of Independence? was it the
chance to be a nation that was free to live
in way God taught us?
The
fact is that the Protestant movement here is
down to churches who are very right wing,
who have no understanding of Ulster of the
Scots Irish tradition. We have seen a
society who loves freedom but has no
understanding why we have it or where it
came from.
Are
we a dying cause in Canada and America? I
think we are unless we find a way to educate
our children to be a nation again. The Jews
do it. The Catholics do it. The Muslims do
it.
What
makes us Protestants so giving that we are
headed to extinction??

Ulster-Scots
Heritage
|
|
Before
I graduated from the University of South
Carolina, a number of years ago, I had met
some men who were most definitely Irish
Republicans. They led me to believe that the
Nationalist/Catholic community, in Northern
Ireland, were the only ones who were
suffering. They told me that the
Protestant/Unionist/Loyalist population were
sitting pretty & experiencing no
problems.
Little
did they know that my family came from that
very Prod/Loyalist side. They questioned me
on where my nana came from & what her
maidan name was, etc. I tried to avoid their
questions because they made me feel a bit
uncomfortable. After hearing everything they
said about how "My people" had
abused "Their people", I felt very
ashamed of 70% of my heritage. I Even went
as far as to look for Gaelic names on three
sides of my family that came from Ulster
& I only came up with one. Every other
one was either Scottish or English. I know
this sounds ridiculous, but at the time it
was important to me. The thing that bothered
me the most was that I knew my nana who had
come from Newtownards & she was a good
woman. She wasn't hateful or ugly acting.
From what she had told me, her family were
basically good people. Sure, they had their
problems, but nothing out of the ordinary.
Unfortunately, she died when I was 16 &
I met these Rep. when I was 18 or 19.
So, of course I couldn't question her on
what was said to me.
I
always kept the situation in Ulster in the
back of my mind, but other things were were
happening in my life. I graduated from
Carolina, got a job, got married, & had
kids. Years later, I started looking on the
internet about goings on in NI . I'd look at
the different newspaper articles to see what
was happening. I then started doing searches
on words such as Scots-Irish, Protestants in
NI, etc & lo & behold I actually
pulled up a site pertaining to the
Ulster-Scots & America. I really
lucked out on this one. I was very surprised
at what I was reading on this particular
site. All the articles were disputing
everything that those Republicans had told
me years ago. Those people had lied to me
& made me feel ashamed & awful about
my blood ancestors & heritage. I have to
say that I felt relieved, but mad at the
same time. They really had me brain
washed at the time, but never again.
The Protestants/Loyalists of Ulster had most
definitely seen their share of tragedy &
abuse & until this day, they still
are.
Thank
God that there are so many good sites on the
net now revealing the real truth of what is
going on in Ulster. I would've never known
the truth, if it weren't for one of these
sites. I was also able to meet some
wonderful people on the net. One man was one
of the editors on a Loyalist site & he
& I became friends. I also became
friends with his wife. My sister & I
were planning to go over to NI in Oct 2001
& they, the couple I became friends
with, invited us to stay with their family.
We did & had a wonderful time. During
that trip, I got to meet many people &
all of them were nothing but nice to me. I
also went over this past July & I took
my 6 yr old daughter & we stayed with my
same friends. My daughter had the best time
& she didn't want to leave.
I
have tried to speak out on various loyalist
guestbooks & there are certain people
who do not like what I have to say. These
are the Republicans & they especially
don't like it because I am an American
speaking up for the 'other side'. That
really gets to them because they feel as
though they have a monopoly on America &
that ALL Americans should support them.
Well, not this American!!! They always come
on acting very arrogant & smug. This
eventually leads to them verbally abusing
me, or any other American who doesn't agree
with them. Now, I have seen this with my own
eyes & the good thing is that I can show
many people over here just how I've been
treated by them.

Orangeism
in Canada
|
|
In
the history of Canada the Loyal
Orange Association has played an
active role. Although it is not
known when or where the first
Orange meetings occurred there is
evidence of activity in the very
early 1800s. At that time the
majority population of Canada was
Protestant and located in Upper
Canada. Many were Orangemen.

In Brockville, Ontario in 1830 the
Orange Association was officially
formed largely through the efforts
of Ogle R. Gowan who came to
Canada from Wexford, Ireland in
1829. Gowan called a general
meeting of all Orangemen on New
Year's Day 1830 and the result was
the forming of the Grand Orange
Lodge of British America with
Gowan as the first Grand Master.
The first Orange Lodge warrant
issued by the new G.O.L. of B.A.
was to Brockville L.O.L. No. 1.
There had been Lodges operating in
Canada earlier than this.
Orangeism was introduced first at
Saint John, New Brunswick by
military lodges from British ships
and regiments stationed there.
There is evidence that Orangemen
were with General James Wolfe at
the Battle of the Plains of
Abraham in 1759. Orangemen also
fought with Isaac Brock at the
Battle of Queenston Heights in the
American War of 1812 - 14.
In 1866, Orangemen fought with the
Queen's Own Rifles and helped to
hold back the Fenians at Ridgeway,
Ontario. Members of Orange Lodges
also played a big part in
suppressing the Upper Canada
rebellion of William Lyon
Mackenzie in 1837. They were also
in western Canada in the military
during the rebellions of Louis
Riel in 1870 and 1885.
After Confederaton ( ie. the
founding of the Dominion of
Canada) in 1867, Orangemen served
with the military in the Boer War
in South Africa and in the two
World Wars. In World War I alone
some 55,000 Orangemen enlisted.
The city of Toronto held its first
Twelfth of July Orange Parade in
1822 and it has continued
uninterrupted ever since. Through
the 1920s and 1930s when the
Orange Association was at its peak
in Canada, Toronto was known as
'the Belfast of Canada' for the
large number of Orange Lodges
operating there and the tremendous
size of its Orange parades.
Parades were also held in every
other province.
Three Canadian Orangemen have been
Prime Ministers, namely, Sir John
A. Macdonald, the father of
Confederation, Sir Mackenzie
Bowell, a Past Grand Master of the
Grand Orange Lodge of British
America, and John Diefenbaker.
Premier Joseph Smallwood who
brought Newfoundland into Canadian
Confederation in 1949 was also an
Orangeman.
It was an Orangeman, Alexander
Muir, who wrote Canada's first
national song - The Maple Leaf
Forever.
Since World War II the membership
of the Orange Association has
steadily declined. Since 1875 the
Loyal Orange Association has
published an official publication,
The Sentinel, which contains Lodge
news as well as religious articles
and other information.
In 1881, the Orange Association in
Canada introduced an insurance
programme for its members
generally known today as 'Orange
Insurance'. The Association also
has operated many benevolent
projects including children's
homes, senior citizen's homes, a
research institute and clinic,
disabled person's hostel,
children's foundation, and
disaster fund as well as raising
funds for causes such as cancer
research, the heart foundation,
muscular dystrophy and crippled
children.

Northern
Ireland - Eyewitness
|
|
When
I traveled to Ulster last October my friend
J took me to Belfast for the day. We mainly
stayed on the Shankill road. We walked
around & he took some photos of the
different murals painted full size on the
walls of houses. We also got to talk to some
young guys who were putting up posters. They
thought that we were both news reporters.
Actually, J is a journalist, but I'm just a
working southern girl from the US. I found
it surprising though that they could tell
that I had a southern accent.
After
leaving, J was driving around & we came
across a whole slew of parked military and
police armored land rovers. He told me that
it must be because of the Upper Ardoyne
protests against attacks and incursions of
Irish Nationalists on the Protestants in the
area. He then asked me if I wanted to go
& check it out. I, of course, said yes,
I definitely wanted to go. After reading so
much about it & having many of my
friends in South Carolina question me about
the situation, I wanted to find out for
myself, what the real deal was. When we
got there, one of the senior police
officers questioned us, but he
eventually let us walk in. There
were several people standing up & down
the side of the road. Many were women-young, middle
aged, & older. Many women had their
young children with them. There were men
about, but I did see more women. J & I
stood with a couple of women & we talked
to them.

Irish
Naitonalist mob gathering.
One
lady told me that I would probably be made
very welcome by the other side & I told
her that I didn't think so. Anyway, the
women started passing out large white
place cards & asked if J & I would
hold one. Of course, we did. Let me mention
that the entire time the protest was
taking place, there were police in riot gear
standing in front of us up & down the
road. There were also many soliders standing
around. Eventually, the kids & their
parents started walking down the road &
I noticed a couple of parents really looking
at me & not in a friendly way.
Apparently, they knew that I was an
outsider, I don't know though. The kids were
singing some sort of song as they were
walking. All the protesters did was stand
there & hold their cards, as J & I
did. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING else happened.
After
this, a man by the name of Sam. came over
& spoke to J & I. He was very
friendly & asked if he could show us
around. He showed us where large rocks &
other items had been thrown over from the
other side. He said that their kids couldn't
even go out after a certain time because the
parents feared that their children would be
injured by these flying objects. That hit
home because I have 2 young children myself
& J has 6. I also met another man who
told me that both of his kids, when they
were younger, had stayed in South Carolina on
some kind of summer program. Sometime
during my conversation with Sam, a bit of
commotion started around the corner. So J,
Sam, & I walked over there to see what
was going on. The other side, whom I
couldn't see, had started some trouble.
We, along with many other people, were just
standing there when soldiers surrounded us
us. I felt like we were crammed into this
small area like sardines. This woman started
talking to me & she said, "Oh,
thank God, an American." She pointed
out some people with fancy suits on who had
video cameras. She told me that they were
Sinn Fein/IRA people & that they were
getting us all on film. I was asking,
"On film for what?? We aren't doing
anything." I saw this for
myself!!!
Sam
told us that we needed to get out of the
area if we wanted to get back to J's house
that night. There was no telling what could
have happened. So, he ushered us out. We got
in J's car & finally got back on the rd
to his house. It took a while since traffic
was backed up. This was my real
life experience of a day in the
protests at the Upper Ardoyne. This
was not told to me by anyone & I am so
glad that I saw the truth for myself. I was
able to bring the TRUTH back home &
dispute many of the things that had been
reported by the biased & one-sided
media. Why doesn't the MEDIA ever
interview people who will tell things the
way they really are? Oh, but we do know why,
now don't we?

Editorial
|

Welcome
to the first edition of the North
American Loyalist.
We
the Editors, and contributors, of the
very first North American Loyalist
newsletter, believe in civil and
religious liberties for all, this is
central doctrine of Orangeism and our
Liberal Democratic heritage that will
be central to this newsletter.
In
other parts of the world, today, we
perceive an organised campaign against
Protestants. In selected corners of
Europe, the Middle East and even
further afield this campaign has taken
the form of both cultural and physical
genocide. We shall urge our
subscribers and or readers not to be
lulled into any false sense of
security, but to seek the facts. In
the face of injustice, speak out
because no one will do it for you.
We
are all residents of North America,
some of us may be first generation
American or Canadian, but our heritage
and origins lie in countries all over
the globe. What happens
elsewhere affects us and people who
would dearly love the freedom we
currently enjoy. Would our
forefathers forgive us for sitting
back and only watching, our Culture
and Heritage be destroyed? The
obvious answer is NO.
It
makes me relieved to, in our very
first edition, bring to you first hand
witness of accounts within our own
country but also of conditions
worldwide. You will read of
events and firsthand accounts from
residents in troubled spots across the
world, including the UK. We will
explore how these atrocities are
perceived and how certain lives have
been affected.
It
never ceases to amaze me how events,
whether political or sectarian can
change all of our lives. I am
extremely concerned about the
disinterest of our Protestant
heritage. The questions I ask are ,
WHEN, WHERE, WHY and HOW? When will
the atrocities towards Protestants
stop? Where, shall we, as Protestants
be, if these atrocities are not
brought to the forefront? Why must our
brothers, sisters, children and even
complete strangers live under these
terrifying conditions? How, my
friends, can this be stopped?
In
our inaugural edition, of The North
American Loyalist, Im pleased to bring
you a few articles in regards to
Orangism in Canada. My adopted home,
if not my native land.
We
hope you enjoy your first edition.

In
the News - 1987
|
|
Anyone
remember this??
It was 1987! At a lecture the
other day they were playing an old
news video of Lt.Col. Oliver North
testifying at the Iran-Contra
hearings
during the Reagan Administration.
There was Ollie in front of God and
country getting the third degree, but
what he said was stunning!
He was being drilled by some senator;
"Did you not recently spend close
to $60,000 for a home security
system?"
Ollie replied, "Yes, I did,
Sir."
The senator continued, trying to get a
laugh out of the audience, "Isn't
that just a little excessive?"
"No, sir," continued Ollie.
"No? And why not?" the
senator asked.
"Because the lives of my family
and I were threatened, sir."
"Threatened? By whom?" the
senator questioned.
"By a terrorist, sir" Ollie
answered.
"Terrorist?
What terrorist could possibly scare
you that much?"
"His name is Osama bin Laden,
sir" Ollie replied.
At this point the senator tried to
repeat the name, but couldn't
pronounce it, which most people back
then probably couldn't. A couple of
people laughed at the attempt. Then
the senator continued. Why
are
you so afraid of this man?" the
senator asked.
"Because, sir, he is the most
evil person alive that I know
of," Ollie answered.
"And what do you recommend we do
about him?" asked the senator.
"Well,
sir, if it was up to me, I would
recommend that an assassin team
be formed to eliminate him and his men
from the face of the earth."
The senator disagreed with this
approach, and that was all that was
shown of the clip.
By the way, that senator was Al Gore.

Letter
from Britain
|
|
On
behalf of the British Loyalists I
would like to wish the North American
Loyalists the very best in their
future venture.
We
share a common aim in that we are
equally focused on civic
responsibility, patriotism and the
cause of freedom within our home
countries and regions yet willing to
share and speak for anyone right
across the globe.
In
Britain we look to the Glorious
Revolution and the works of the
Liberal John Locke that have helped
shaped our modern world. In the
US the work continued by Tom Paine,
the US constitution and many other
events have helped further the cause
of Liberal Democracy and freedom based
on a Protestant heritage and respect
for the mind and conscience of each
individual.
I'm
heartened to see a mix of interests in
this newsletter from Royalists to
Confederates and I look forward to
seeing a range of articles focusing on
your heritage from Richmond or
Washington to Ottawa and the platform
which you are building to look forward
to a new future for yourselves and the
generations yet to come.

Maple
Leaf Forever
|
|
In
Days of yore, from Britain's shore,
Wolfe, the dauntless hero came,
And planted firm Britannia's flag,
On Canada's fair domain.
Here may it wave, our boast, our
pride,
And joined in love together,
The thistle, shamrock, rose entwine,
The Maple Leaf forever!
Chorus:
The Maple Leaf, our emblem dear,
The Maple Leaf forever!
God save our King, and Heaven bless,
The Maple Leaf forever!
At Queenston Heights and Lundy's Lane,
Our brave fathers, side by side,
For freedom, homes, and loved ones
dear,
Firmly stood and nobly died;
And those dear rights which they
maintained,
We swear to yield them never!
Our watchword evermore shall be,
The Maple Leaf forever!
3. Our fair Dominion now extends
From Cape Race to Nootka Sound;
May peace forever be our lot,
And plenteous store abound:
And may those ties of love be ours
Which discord cannot sever,
And flourish green o'er freedom's home
The Maple Leaf forever!
4. On merry England's far-famed land,
May kind Heaven sweetly smile;
God bless Old Scotland evermore,
And Ireland's Emer'ld Isle!
Then swell the song, both loud and
long,
Till rocks and forest quiver,
God save our King, and Heaven bless
The Maple Leaf forever!
